County health department adjusts COVID case investigation practices

| January 19, 2022

The Coshocton County Health Department is asking people who test positive for COVID-19 to isolate and notify those in their households and their close contacts including co-workers.

The department’s priority continues to be giving newly-diagnosed people guidance on how and why to isolate. They are attempting to contact persons 65+ and those under the age of 18 directly. However they may not be able to contact everyone in this group. You may/may not receive a phone call from a contact tracer two to four days after your positive lab test. The phone number may not be from area code 740. Please answer because they will provide you with isolation information and an isolation release date.

Health department staff are making every effort to mail out an isolation letter to those who have tested positive. The health department is aware that you may receive your isolation letter after the five-day initial isolation period is over. Please be mindful that positive COVID-19 cases are contagious for 10 days.

With the sheer volume of current and expected cases, the health department needs the public’s help to notify those in their households and their close contacts, including co-workers, of their exposure to a positive COVID-19 case, to let people know of their risk so they can quarantine in a speedy manner.

Those exposed to someone who has tested positive should self-quarantine, watch for symptoms and take a COVID test within five to seven days, sooner if symptoms show up. The Coshocton County Health Department is also asking people who need a return to work/school/daycare letters to please use your test result as your letter to return to work/school/daycare.
