County wrestlers fall short at state tournament

The 2021 OHSAA Division III state wrestling tournament hosted by Marion Harding High School concluded on March 14. Two country wrestlers fell short of the podium in their respected weight classes.

Ethan Dixon of Coshocton finished the season with a record of 22-8 at the 120 lb. weight class. Dixon lost in the first round by technical fall to Jason Shaffer of Troy Christian. The following round of consolations Dixon lost again by technical fall to eventual state placer Carson Chiesa of Delta.

The Ridgewood Generals were represented at the state tournament by Jesse Maple in the 126 lb. weight class. He finished his season with a record of 29-7. Maple fell in the first round by a score or 12-4 to eventual state placer Caleb Edwards of Rootstown. In the first round of consolations Maple lost to Troy Kennedy of Troy Christian by a score of 6-1.

Both wrestlers are juniors and look to improve over the off season to cap off their high school careers with All-Ohioan honors.
