Courthouse Downs, Gallop for the Glow will benefit illumination project

| April 3, 2025

A unique fundraiser will be held to benefit the courthouse illumination project. Courthouse Downs, Gallop for the Glow will be held Saturday, May 3 in the community room on Chestnut Street.

The event begins at 5 p.m. with cocktails and appetizers, with dinner at 6 p.m. and then a viewing of the Kentucky Derby. After the derby, there will be a local night at the races. There will be nine races with 90 horses available to purchase at a cost of $25 each. If the horse you purchased wins, you win $50.

These horses are on sale now and are selling quickly. You do not have to be at the fundraiser for your horse to win. Mary Beck, administrator in the Coshocton County Commissioner’s Office said, “We have a grand finale race, and these horses will be sold the night of the event. There will be 10 horses for sale and whatever they sell for, the winner gets half the pot.”

Beck said the idea was chosen during a weekly staff meeting. “We talked about a gala, but that was nixed pretty quickly. I had participated in a night at the races fundraiser, and it earned a lot of money and was a lot of fun.” They decided to combine it with the Kentucky Derby and Tom Edwards was asked to help, as he knows a lot about the derby and bourbons.

“We will have two specialty drinks available and bourbon tastings, as well as a silent bourbon auction for some very unique and rare bourbons. We are also having an online auction for five very special bourbons that begins April 1,” Beck said.

Tickets are $50 a plate or a table of eight is $500.

The money raised will be used to continue to improve the courthouse illumination project. “I know we need to purchase a new sound system as the old one is not working properly, as well as we need additional electric on all sides of the building. That in itself is quite costly,” Beck said.
