Cy Young Days Festival is just around the corner

NEWCOMERSTOWN – On Friday night, June 21, at 5 p.m. the Cy Young Days Festival will start with its opening ceremony and the crowning of festival royalty for 2019. A cornhole tournament will start at 6 p.m. with cash prizes. Entry forms are available at www.cyyoungdaysfestival.com. Mike Hoskins will entertain on the Canal Street stage at 6:30 p.m. followed by Chestnut Hill bluegrass band from 8 to 11 p.m.

Saturday, June 22, the day will start at 7:15 a.m. with registration for the Cy Young Run which begins at 8 a.m. at Cy Young Park on North College Street. Following the run, guest of honor, Cy Young Award winner Randy Jones will present awards to the runners and will then visit Cy Young’s Grave at Peoli. Jones won the Cy Young Award in 1976 while he was with the San Diego Padres and will be speaking following the luncheon, which will be held at the Laborers Local Hall 134 at 12:30 p.m. The doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and reservations are required. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 11. This year there will be five Louisville Slugger bats to be auctioned at the luncheon. They are engraved with the festival name, date and will be autographed by Jones.

At noon on Saturday the ARTSNCT talent show is scheduled to be on the Canal Street Stage. The parade line up will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the parade starting at 6 p.m. Jones will serve as the grand parade marshall and will be signing autographs at the Olde Main Street Museum on Canal Street following the parade. The royalty and visiting queens’ introductions will take place at the Canal Street Stage after that the New Towne Cloggers will perform. From 8 to 11 p.m. the Adam Calvert Band will bring their high energy country rock show to the stage to close out the day.

Sunday, June 23 will start off at 8 a.m. with a vintage baseball tournament at Cy Young Park.  There will be five teams participating, playing by old time rules. At 1 p.m. registration for the annual car show begins on Main Street. At 3 p.m. registration ends and the car show begins.  Also, at 3 p.m. there will be a pet show on the Canal Street Stage. At 5 p.m. the car show awards will be presented, and the Cy Young Days Festival will be over.
