Cynthia “Cindy” Lee Roof

Cynthia “Cindy” Lee Roof, 71, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 16th, 2022.

She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Helen and Wilbur Kohl, and her paternal grandfather, Willis Roof, her parents John Roof and Wanda Kohl, her youngest brother, Sammy Rivera, and her husband Gustavo Llanes. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Shannon Roof and wife, Kimberly Stokes Roof, Felino “Jamie” Navedo, Gustavo “Tabby” Llanes, and Ty Llanes and girlfriend, Cheyenne Polen. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Alexis Stewart-Llanes, Clarrisa Roof, Cally Roof Casey, Cierra Navedo Bonar, Quentin Navedo, Gavin Llanes, Camron Roof, Selena Llanes, and Keegan Llanes and great grandchildren, Jochebed Casey, Liam Bonar, Jameson Casey, Deacon Bonar. Her living siblings include, John Roof and his wife Kim Roof, Charmaine Roof, Diedre Orr Shryock and her husband Ron Shryock, and Carmen Rivera Stokes and her husband Robert Stokes. She is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cindy was born July 12, 1950, in Coshocton and has lived here her entire life. She was a person who loved to spend time with her family. Holiday parties, family reunions, and the county fair were some of her favorite events. She especially enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and sharing stories with them. Cindy liked to travel to new places and one of her favorite places was the beach. She loved to watch people, she liked to sit on her porch swing to observe the traffic or even sit on a bench at the fair and take in the passing crowd. She could also strike up a conversation with any person she met and she never struggled for something to say. She was affectionately dubbed “Grandma Bitsy” as she frequently sang songs and nursery rhymes, like The Itsy Bitsy Spider, with her grandchildren. Cindy spent several years working at the Park Hotel and College Park and would often recount experiences from her time at either job. She worked hard to obtain her GED and then helped other students work towards theirs as well, working as a GED tutor.

Calling hours and a funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 am to honor her. The service will start at 1:00 p.m. at Free Funeral Home, 788 South 2nd St. Coshocton, Ohio 43812, with burial to follow immediately after the service at South Lawn Cemetery.
