Daugherty’s Ashland U team set for tournament run

ASHLAND – River View graduate Andi Daugherty and her Ashland University’s women’s basketball teammates will begin their 17th Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Kates Gymnasium today, Tuesday, March 1 at 5:30 p.m. against Northern Michigan. The No. six-ranked Eagles (27-1) enter the 2016 GLIAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed, and will take on the Wildcats (13-15) to open play. With a win, Ashland will play host to the conference tournament’s Final Four on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6.

Ashland has won 26 consecutive games at Kates Gymnasium, and is 14-0 at home this season, tied for the third-most wins at “The Kates” in a season in program history. The Eagles are 84-10 (.894) at home since the start of the 2010-11 campaign.

The 2015-16 season is the third in the last five seasons in which the Eagles ended the regular season with a single loss. Since the start of the 2010-11 season, Ashland
is 159-32 (.832) overall. Ashland is 18-14 alltime in the GLIAC Tournament, and 3-3 in the tourney against Northern Michigan. The Eagles and Wildcats last played in the conference tournament on March 6, 2013, with the result being a 68-35 AU home victory.

Daugherty, a sophomore forward, won five Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference South Division Player of the Week awards in 2015-16. Through the regular
season, Daugherty leads the Eagles in scoring (15.7 ppg.).
