Dean A. Mercer

Dean A. Mercer, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Oak Point Nursing and Rehabilitation in Baltic, Ohio, where he is together again with the love of his life, Sharon Dorsey. He was born on February 21, 1960, in Zanesville, Ohio, to the late William R. and Janet (Shroyer) Mercer Sr.

Dean’s life was one marked by dedication, warmth, and a spirited nature that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Dean graduated from Ridgewood High School in the class of 1979, where he formed friendships and memories that he cherished throughout his life. After graduation, he embarked on a long and fulfilling career at Jones Metal Products, where he dedicated forty-one years of service before retiring. His commitment to his work was paralleled by his involvement with the Coshocton Eagles Lodge, where he was a longtime member forming enduring bonds with fellow members.

A man of many talents and interests, Dean was particularly known for his handy work. He had a passion for playing golf, a sport that allowed him to enjoy the outdoors and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. Dean also had a remarkable skill for auto body work, meticulously restoring cars and painting motorcycle gas tanks. His creative touch and attention to detail were evident in every project he undertook.

Dean’s friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his community. He approached life with a spirited zest that was contagious, and his presence was a source of joy and comfort to those around him. Described by those who knew him best as handy and friendly, Dean’s legacy is one of kindness, laughter, and an unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by a loving family that includes his daughter, Amber (Gary) Goddard of West Lafayette; son, Heath (Sam) Mercer of West Lafayette; sister, Keena McMullen of Newcomerstown; grandchildren, Amber, Emmalee, Jayla, Tanner Goddard, Brantley, and Braylee Mercer; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Hayden, Jaxton, and Izzabella Bunton, Buxton Prater. Dean was predeceased by his brother, William R. “Bill” Mercer; his fiancé, Sharon Dorsey; and his cherished canine companion, Bubba.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Coshocton Eagles Lodge, 99 Main Street, Coshocton Ohio on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 from 5:00pm – 7:00pm, come have one last beer with Dean.

Graveside services will be held at South Lawn Cemetery on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 1:00pm.
