Doggie Paddle Day set at Lake Park Aquatic Center
To end the pool season, the Lake Park Aquatic Center will hold a Doggie Paddle Day on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 4-7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Coshocton Veterinary Association.
The cost is $5 per dog or you may make a donation of one of the following: KMR kitten formula, canned or dry kitten food, Purina cat food (blue bag), Purina chicken and rice dog food, puppy food, Paper towels, bleach, laundry items, floor disinfectant, Dawn dish soap, catnip, Temptations cat treats, long-lasting chew bones, pet toys or pet treats. All donated items will be given to the Coshocton County Animal Shelter and the Coshocton County Humane Society.
All dogs, and their human parents, must follow several rules. Dogs must be under control at all times. Humans are only allowed in shallow end as there are no lifeguards on duty. Owners must clean up after their pets. Dogs and humans must behave around other dogs and humans.
Tammi Rogers, director of the Coshocton Park District Lake Park Complex, said the idea of a doggie swim time came from Dr. Butcher at Pleasant Valley. “He got the ball rolling last year. The thought behind it was to provide pups an opportunity to have a swim day after the pool is closed to the public and before we drain it for the season.”
Rogers said, “It was a hit last year and pretty well attended. It was super fun to watch. Last year, local vets, vet techs and vet staff volunteered their time to accept the donations and make sure everyone ‘played nice. The best part was to watch the dogs’ faces when they realized they could go in the pool – pure joy.”
