Donald William Rush
COSHOCTON – Donald William Rush, age 93, of Coshocton, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He was born on July 21, 1924, in Massillon, Ohio to the late Calvin W. and Flora M. (Lippay) Rush
Don was a 1942 graduate of Massillon Washington High and a 1949 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. He served as a WWII aerial gunnery instructor and then as a Staff Sgt. Tail gunner in the 5th AAF, 90th Jolly Rogers Bomb Group until his discharge in November of 1945 at Wright Patterson. Don was a lifelong member of the American Legion.
Don’s early work career was with Massillon Steel Castings, Delaware City Loan and Coshocton G.E. In 1952, he began a long career with Edmont Manufacturing in a variety of management. From December 1956 through December 1959, he managed Haynesville Mfg. Co. in Haynesville, LA for Edmont. Don retired on June 1, 1983.
Over his many years in Coshocton, he was very active in Grace United Methodist Church where he was in the choir and served in many different capacities. Over the years, he was an ardent fisherman painter, and golfer. He and his late wife were members of the Gingham & Swingem Western Square Dance for a number of years.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara.
Don is survived by his son, Robert (Lora) Rush of Pataskala, Ohio and daughters, Charlotte (Joseph) Rush Bailey of Scottsdale, Arizona and Gloria (Dan) White of Indianapolis, Indiana. Also surviving are his grandchildren Hannah Rush and Christopher and Katie White. In addition he is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, Grace Putnam Schantz; step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, and special cousin Marilyn Miller Schantz.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct 7, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary of Grace United Methodist Church, 422 Walnut Street, Coshocton, Ohio. Calling hours will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the parlor of the church on Saturday. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Millersburg, Ohio at a later date.
