Dorothy Jean Sharples Lapp

| December 27, 2022

Dorothy Jean Sharples Lapp, 89, died peacefully at home, December 23, 2022, following a short illness.

Dorothy was born August 5, 1933, in Tunnel Hill, Ohio, to the late Ethel and Fred Sharples. She graduated from Warsaw High School in 1951. She also attended Kent State University.

Dorothy married Warren Lapp on September 18, 1954. Warren preceded her in death October 1, 2017. She is survived by their children: David (Alana) of Coshocton; Sharon (Fred) Wachtel of Coshocton; Linda (Eric) Meyer of St. Louis, MO and Carol of Coshocton.

She was a proud grandmother to Michelle Lapp of Johnstown, Jennifer (Jason) Massie of Coshocton, Doug Wachtel of Cleveland, Stephanie (Pat) Snyder of Warsaw, and Major Steven Wachtel, USAF, of Niceville, FL.

Great Dorothy enjoyed doting on her great grandchildren Luke, Layton and Laramie Massie, and Archie and Penny Snyder. She was preceded in death by angel great grandchildren Addy and Grady Snyder.

Her sister, Mary Reese, survives, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Moore. Her brothers, Russell and Robert Sharples, were lost in 1944 in WWII.

Dorothy was a valued and hard-working farm wife. She was an expert grain cart driver, spending many hours during harvest guiding her tractor and cart alongside the combines. In the spring, she could be found pulling anhydrous ammonia tanks to the fields.

In addition to her farm duties, she worked for REA, drove a River View school bus, was a 4-H member and advisor, Grange member, bloodmobile volunteer and donor, and spent many hours volunteering at the River View fair stand and for other music and sports events.

She enjoyed walks with family pets, especially Bert and Ellie, gardening, birdwatching, tending her beloved Purple Martin colony, and supporting her grandchildren and great grandchildren at soccer, swimming, track and field, volleyball, basketball and baseball, as well as school and local musicals and plays.

Per Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. She promised to come back and haunt her children if we held a viewing. Following cremation, her ashes will be combined with Warren’s ashes, and a private burial will be held at Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw is handling arrangements. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
