Edward F. Groff

Edward F. Groff, 81, of Newcomerstown, passed away Feb. 12, 2021 to be with his heavenly father following a declining illness.

He was born July 5, 1939 to the late Dorthy Mae (Swogger) and Francis A. Groff. He attended school in Newcomerstown and was a graduate from Moosehart, IL in 1958. He served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Ed served on Newcomerstown Police and Fire Departments. He was one of the first EMTs in town, and he held the position of Fire Chief. He was employed by Heller Tool and retired from General Electric Ohio Coil Shop.

Ed married Jody (Green) Groff on June 19, 1966 and shared a wonderful 54 and a half  years. Together they have three children, Eddie (Patti) Groff Jr, Tammy (Jeff) Parks, Bryan (Jennifer) Groff; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Ed is also survived by a sister, Janice (John) Felice and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha (Casey) Cassidy.

Ed had a passion for football, baseball, and fishing, and his 1949 Chevy that he showed at car shows all over. Ed was a caring and devoted friend, loving husband, father, and grandfather. Together Ed and Jody were one of the original founders of Journey’s End Ministries, which they continued to be a part of for 25 years. He loved helping people and loved serving the Lord as a member of the Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years.

Viewing will be at noon on Feb. 17, 2021 with services following at 1 p.m. at Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown, with Pastor Gerald Grey officiating. Military services to be conducted by the Newcomerstown Veterans’ Honor Guard.
