The topic for the 2019-20 Americanism Essay Contest was “What does freedom of speech mean to me.” There were six winners locally advancing to the district competition. The local competition was sponsored by Coshocton Elks Lodge #376.
The Div. I winners (grade 5-6) were Lucy Baylor, Aiden Evans and Graysen Searls from Coshocton Elementary’s sixth grade. Searls and Baylor advanced to districts and finished first and third, respectively.
The Div. II winners (grade 7-8) were Lucas Meiser and Sophia Skelton from Coshocton Jr. High’s seventh grade and Ally Fischer from River View Jr. High’s seventh grade. Meiser advanced to districts. He won first place there and second at state.
These winners were acknowledged and rewarded for their essays by mail due to the pandemic.
