Esther Margaret Frank Matis
Esther Margaret Frank Matis, age 87, of Fresno, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in Mount Vernon, Ohio. She was born on May 23, 1936, in Fresno to the late Herman Alvin and Helen Eleanor (Slack) Frank.
She graduated salutatorian of her class in 1954 of Fresno High School. On January 30, 1955, she married John Matis Jr. who survives.
Esther was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She worked for Edmont, Clow and Buckeye Fabric. Esther was among the original crew at the Columbus Southern Conesville Power Generation Plant and the first woman to be hired.
Esther is survived by her two children, Timothy John (Sherri Dawson) Matis of Fresno,OH and Jill Renee(Paul Michael) Linhares of Fredericktown, OH; four granddaughters, Molly Elizabeth Linhares, Morgan Lynn Matis, Emma Katherine Linhares and Sydney Lynn Matis; siblings Richard Herman(Barbara) Frank, Albert Benard(Jane) Frank, Harold Eugene(Janet) Frank, Norma Jean (Bob) Shank, Donna Marie Olinger, Harry Spencer Frank, Helen Theresa McConnell, Donald (Karen) Frank and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her two brothers, Ernest Frederick and Larry Lee Frank , sisters-in-law, Julia Bostwick, Rose Bailey, Elizabeth Elliott, Irene Guilliams and brother-in-law Louis Matis.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00 pm with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating. Burial will be held at Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
