Fortune’s Boot Shop helps CCCC students
Several Coshocton County Career Center students had a wonderful surprise a few weeks ago. After a casual conversation between Sheri Fortune and Mike Cichon, culinary arts teacher at the school, Fortune’s Boot Shop donated around 36 pairs of work shoes to students at the school.
Brent Fortune said, “We just thought it would be a great way to help the students at the school. My wife was talking to Mr. Cichon and it seemed like donating the boots was the right thing to do.”
Cichon is in his 19th year teaching. He said this year is the most students the program has ever had. “Ten culinary two and 18 culinary one student. I require my students to have oil slip resistant shoes. Most of the programs require certain protective clothing. Some require this to be part of the uniform such as metal fabrication.”
“About 36 pairs of work shoes were given to us. Some were work clogs that could be used in nursing or culinary. Some were really nice steel toe boots. I’m guessing the value is between $2,500 to $3,000,” Cichon said.
“Sheri Fortune and I are members of BPW and at one of our meetings, she asked if the school would be interested in the donation. Of course, I said ‘yes,’” he said. “The students are helped by being prepared for the workforce. One student mentioned his mom has been saving for a long time, now she can use that money for something else and he still gets a nice pair of shoes.”
