Frank Croy

WEST LAFAYETTE – Frank Croy age 85, of West Lafayette passed away May 21, 2018 at Lafayette Pointe Nursing Home in West Lafayette.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday May 28, 2018 at the Free Funeral Home Coshocton, Ohio with Pastor Chris Cutshall officiating.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Coshocton County Memory Gardens.

He was born May 1, 1933 in Coshocton, Ohio, the ninth of ten children of Dennis and Hazel Cox Dunn.  After his mother’s early death, Frank was adopted by William and Ada Croy.  An excellent student, he attended school in Otsego and graduated from John Glenn High School in 1952.  As a child, he was known for his love of animals, even having a pet raccoon and a pet crow.  He married an Otsego girl, Beverly Bradford, who survives him, and with whom he enjoyed over 65 years of marriage and had three children: Dan, Janice and Diane.

Frank retired from Pretty Products, Inc. after forty-two years.  Even in his old age, he reminisced about his job as aftermarket warehouse coordinator and his many co-workers.  He was a hard worker his whole life, and after he retired he volunteered as a nursing home ombudsman for the state of Ohio.

In the early 1960s, Frank was reunited with two of his birth sisters, and he was always thankful that he was able to connect with them and be a part of their lives.

Frank was a faithful member of the Fresno Bible Church for most of his adult life where over the years he served as a board member, Sunday school teacher and camp counselor.  Occasionally he served local congregations as a lay preacher, filling the pulpit or teaching in their pastors’ absence.

Those who knew Frank knew his passion for sports.  He was a great athlete himself, and loved to give play-by-play accounts of his basketball games in Otsego and New Concord, where he “proudly” led the teams in fouls.  He also was his children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan in any sport they chose to play.  He spent countless hours instructing and encouraging them, and he maintained his own stat sheet for every game they were in.  He was baseball coach for Fresno Little League and a basketball and softball coach for church teams.

He was a super grandpa to all nine of his grandchildren, but he had a special relationship with his grandson Brian, who had muscular dystrophy.  After Frank retired, he and Brian became regulars at the movie theaters and every restaurant in Coshocton and Muskingum counties.

He loved his home in West Lafayette and was happy and content in his later years helping Bev in the house and taking care of the lawn, his dog Bear and the birds and strays he fed daily.

In addition to his wife Beverly Bradford of 65 years he is survived by a son Daniel (Donna) Croy of West Lafayette, Ohio; two daughters Janice (John) Todd of Zanesville, Ohio and Diane (Danny) Olinger of Glenside, Pennsylvania; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ada (Sayre) Croy, two sisters Jeanette (Dunn) Fields and Mary (Dunn) Byers and a grandson Brian Croy.

Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fresno Bible Church, 24629 SR 93 Fresno, Ohio 43824.  Online condolences may be made at freefuneralhome.com
