Free snow removal service offered
COSHOCTON – Heather Walker is helping her cousin and other family members give back to the community with a free snow removal service.
“We were raised to help our elders, seniors and people in the community,” she said.
Walker is the dispatcher for DeWitt’s Snow Removal, which is being operated by her cousin Ryan DeWitt with the help of his wife, children and Walker’s 19-year-old son who is in the Ohio National Guard.
“This is his (Ryan’s) way of getting them together and teaching them that this (helping others) is what we do,” Walker said.
As of Jan. 17 they had done 35 snow removal jobs and they plan to keep offering their services throughout the winter season.
“Everyone is really pleased and happy,” Walker said. “One lady called us and wanted to know if we could do the driveway of two elderly women who had been stuck in their house.”
At that time the crew was having vehicle and tractor problems and broke three shovels, but with the help of that caller they got the job done.
“I called her and told her one way or another we’d get the job done and she called Ace Hardware and charged replacement shovels for us,” Walker said. “People have been really kind and appreciate the nice job they do.”
While the sidewalk and driveway snow removal services are free, donations are accepted.
“It all goes back to fuel in the vehicle and supplies,” Walker said.
