General’s Prater earns All Ohio track honors at state
COSHOCTON – Several area athletes made the trek to the 2017 OHSAA state track meet held at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University this past weekend.
Ridgewood’s sophomore phenom Alexis Prater was on the podium not once – but twice – bringing home All-Ohio honors in two events – sixth place in the girls’ 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.81 and sixth place in the girls’ long jump with a first jump distance of 17 feet, nine inches.
The Generals sent seniors Michael Kelly, Jhett Slusser, Javon Merril and sophomore Blake Craigo to compete in the boys’ 4 by 200 meter relay event but a baton mishap in the preliminaries kept the boys from placing. The foursome had a tremendous year and deserve accolades for their performance throughout the 2017 track season!
River View junior Cassidi Bookless placed 11th in the girl’s 400 meter dash preliminaries with a time of 58.48 which was only fractions of a second from making the finals.
The Black Bears foursome of Cassidi Bookless, Macy Hill, Nicole Bryant and Alicia Lonsinger competed in the girls’ 4 by 400 meter relay and placed 12th in the preliminaries with a time of 4.07.25, mere seconds off the pace to make the finals. Hill is the lone senior on the foursome with Lonsinger a sophomore and Bookless and Bryant juniors.
Congratulations to all of these youngsters for representing our community at the 2017 OHSAA state track meet!
