Geraldine ‘Jere’ Totsch

Geraldine “Jere” Totsch, 89, of Coshocton passed away at The Oaks at Northpointe in Zanesville on Jan. 1, 2022.

Jere was born in Tipton County, TN on April 29, 1932, to the late Johnny F. and Elizabeth L. (Laxton) Hanks. She graduated from Byers Hall High School in Tennessee and was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a 65-year member of Grace United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed walking and spending time outdoors working in her flower beds. Her joy later in life was caring for her beloved Boston Terrier grand puppies. She was incredibly active in our community, serving as a poll worker for 49 years. Always loving and caring, she was a caregiver for several ladies through the course of her life.

Jere is survived by her son, Mike Totsch of Coshocton; one brother, Dennis Hanks of Brighton, TN; sisters, Ruth Beloate of Brighton, TN and Carolyn Tankersley of Covington, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard F. “Dick” Totsch whom she married May 8, 1954, Dick passed away in 2015; three brothers, James Cecil, George, and Tom Hanks; four sisters, Elizabeth Coley, Kathryn Smith, Frances Stegemoller and Juanita Stafford.

Friends may call at the Grace United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. where a funeral service for Jere will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Christy Suffecool officiating.  A cremation will take place after the funeral services and burial of her cremated remains will take place in South Lawn Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, The Coshocton County Animal Shelter and HATA or Shriver Hospice.
