Gibbs, House passes defense funding bill
WASHINGTON, DC – After passage of the Defense Appropriations Act this afternoon, Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement:
“Today, the House approved funding to ensure the United States military is properly equipped and trained. When terrorist organizations like ISIS are exporting terror to the West and nations like Russia are bullying allies, we need to be prepared for any threats. That is why this bill provides the funding necessary for more ships, aircraft, and improved ground combat vehicles.
“Additionally, we are rejecting the Obama Administration’s proposal to reduce the number of troops in our military. Given the instability of the Middle East and elsewhere, shrinking the size of our fighting force is irresponsible. The United States must be prepared to meet any challenge, which is why the House voted to maintain our troop levels with a boost in pay, while providing the best training with state of the art facilities.
“The men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces deserve our thanks for keeping us safe in times of peace and of conflict. It is our responsibility to give them the tools and training to perform their mission.”
