Gibbs sworn in to start 115th Congress
WASHINGTON, DC – While the Presidential Inauguration is still 17 days away, the 115th Congress officially began this afternoon, Jan. 3, as Congressman Bob Gibbs was joined by 434 colleagues to be sworn in to office. Now in his fourth term, Congressman Gibbs will continue to focus on regulatory reform, an issue for which he cares passionately. After eight years of regulatory overreach, Congress will have the opportunity to work with President-elect Trump to repeal the burdensome rules that have been hurting American families.
“I am honored to continue representing the People of Ohio’s Seventh District. I first ran on reforming government, repealing Obamacare, and creating the right regulatory environment to encourage economic growth,” said Gibbs. “The next two years will be exciting and I am looking forward to working with the Senate and President-elect Trump to enact the very reforms I have been fighting for since I was first elected.”
Gibbs’ efforts will focus on reforming the Environmental Protection Agency, particularly the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule and helping cities and local governments with EPA mandates through the Integrated Planning Process. Gibbs has been a leader in the fight against the WOTUS rule and introduced legislation last Congress to give municipalities more flexibility in long-term water infrastructure planning.
Ending EPA overreach is not the only topic Gibbs will focus on this Congress. “One of the first things we must do is address the rising costs of healthcare and health insurance.” Gibbs continued, “Repealing and replacing Obamacare must be one of our top priorities. Too many Americans have seen their premiums increase, networks shrink, or lose their plans completely. Government interference in the health insurance market has only made it more expensive and unaffordable. By implementing market-oriented reforms and incentivizing Health Savings Accounts, we can help drive down healthcare costs.”
