Gibbs to President Obama: Nothing Funny About Iranian Nuclear Weapons
WASHINGTON, DC – Following the President’s press conference about yesterday’s announcement of the agreement with Iran, Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement:
“In the past day, I have had the opportunity to learn more about the agreement that Secretary Kerry negotiated with Iran. My number one concern is how any deal with Iran affects the safety and security of America and our ally Israel. This deal effectively gives Iran 24 days to protest and delay any inspections. This is unacceptable. Iran must agree to and comply with unannounced, unimpeded inspections at any location and any time.
“This afternoon, the President referred to Iran’s ability to create covert nuclear research sites ‘funny business’. There is nothing funny about the existential threat a nuclear-armed Iran poses to our allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia.
“I call on my colleagues to vote against a bad deal that does not enhance America’s interests or protect our allies.”
