Glenn “Zimmy” Zimmerman
Glenn “Zimmy” Zimmerman, of Coshocton, son of the late Calvin and Mabel (Gribble) Zimmerman of Sugarcreek, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the grand old age of 91. At his side was his best friend and loving wife of 67 years, Phyllis.
Known by all as “Zimmy”, he was one of the world’s greatest sports enthusiasts. A fervent OSU Buckeye and Guardians fan, he played professional baseball in the early 1950s, coached the local American Legion baseball team, and was part of the Coshocton High School football chain crew for many years.
Glenn held a 34 year career at AK Steel until his retirement, when he enjoyed spending time with his family, many friends, and fellow Elks and Moose members. Zimmy, always known to be lucky and share an adventurous story, loved horse racing and the luck of a casino.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, James Zimmerman, and brothers, Gene and Robert Zimmerman.
Glenn will be greatly missed and survived by his loving wife, Phyllis (Miller) Zimmerman; his children, Mike (Marybeth) Zimmerman of Westlake and Lori (Mark) Disakias of New Jersey; grandchildren, Abbey and Maggie (fiancé Bobby Theiss) Zimmerman, Jillian (Tyler Longpine) Wanner, Calvin (Lindsay) Wanner and Diana (Aidan Fenix) Wanner; step-grandchildren, Sue and Kristina Disakias; great-grandchildren, Maya and Sierra Longpine; sister-in-law, Kay Zimmerman and nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends was held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A Memorial Service followed at 1:00 pm with Pastor Stewart Royce officiating.
