Graduate from high school with an Associate Degree from COTC
NEWARK – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is offering Coshocton area high school students a program, the Coshocton Initiative that will allow them the opportunity to complete an associate degree while at the same time earning credit toward high school graduation.
Following the graduation of a Knox Initiative cohort, the school is expanding the successful program. The Coshocton Initiative begins with autumn semester 2015 and will get students started on their way to earning an associate of arts degree or to get a jump start on any of COTC’s 40 degree or certificate programs. Students enroll in a college schedule with other COTC students while still finishing the day in time to participate in their after-school high school activities.
The associate of arts degree provides students with a direct pathway toward a bachelor’s degree program or a variety of career options.
“The Coshocton Initiative will offer benefits to students and parents,” said Teri Holder, vice president of extended campuses and the Gateway. “I would say, being a parent, the number one thing is the maturity level that I have seen with these students that are ready to graduate from the program. They enter the program as sophomores in high school, and develop into incredible college students. Also the financial benefit, there is nothing better than to see those savings and scholarship dollars these students are receiving, and the leg up that it is giving them when they get ready to go on to pursue the rest of their career and educational journey.”
The Knox Initiative cohort collectively was awarded more than $350,000 in college scholarships.
