Grant money to help restore courtroom
COSHOCTON – The Coshocton County Commissioners announced that they were notified of the receipt of $25,000 from the Schooler Family Foundation to help with the restoration costs of the Coshocton County Common Pleas Courtroom.
The Common Pleas Courtroom is Phase II in the restoration process of the Coshocton County Courthouse. The total estimated cost of this project is $173,701. With this cost, the courtroom will be restored to the original ceiling heights to allow for viewing of the murals that cannot be seen at this time; as well the upstairs balcony will be reopened for viewing.
Over the years, the courthouse has become rundown and in disrepair. The county commissioners have determined the need to begin the restoration of the 139 year old building. Over the past two years the county commissioners have spent approximately $125,000 on Phase I – repairs to the exterior of the courthouse by painting and replacing windows.
