Gregory M. Cosmar
Gregory M. Cosmar, age 71, of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away while visiting family in Coshocton, Ohio, on Friday, November 15, 2024. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio on April 17, 1953 to Guido “Guy” and Donna (Daugherty) Cosmar.
After graduating from Coshocton High School in 1971, he worked for Columbus Southern Power Company. Gregg later began his law enforcement career with the Coshocton Police Department. In 1978, Gregg moved to Florida. In 1979, he joined the Margate Police Department (MPD). He rose through the ranks from Officer to Lieutenant, serving in various assignments; including patrol, criminal investigation, narcotics, community policing, and training. Gregg was a diligent law enforcement professional. Throughout his career, he was often recognized for outstanding performance and awarded for numerous individual accomplishments; including Officer of the year several times. In 2009, after 33 years of service he retired. He then worked for several years with the Plantation Police Department as their Ranger Master and Armorer.
In 1980, he met Katie Eagan-Cosmar, a nurse from St. Louis, MO. They met in the ER at Margate General Hospital (now NorthWest Medical center). Katie was reluctant to date a police officer but he won her over with his charm and storytelling. On August 15th 1981 the two were married. The following years welcomed their three daughters; Maggie, Amy and Molly.
Gregg was a gun enthusiast and a talented gunsmith. He loved anything related to history, especially the Civil War and WWII. He enjoyed spending his time watching documentaries, films or reading anything related to historical events centered around the United States of America. He revered our Military and enjoyed sharing stories with any service man/woman he came across. He liked watching westerns, hunting and loved going to the movies with Katie and playing pranks on his daughters.
More than anything Gregg loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and son. He frequently flew back and forth to Ohio to see his parents and siblings. Jokingly, Gregg referred to Katie as “The Warden” but we know that she was his everything and he loved her dearly and she loved him.
As a father, Gregg was present in every way. He dedicated his life to his daughters and loved them eternally. He reminded us that he was always just a phone call away. He was our protector, our teacher and most importantly a prime example of what the word Father means. We will miss his hugs and his sense of humor but mostly his over the top laugh and his annoying whistling.
We were blessed to have him and lucky that for the time we had, he was ours.
He will be a first time grandfather in Feb/March of 2025. The baby’s middle name will be Gregory.
He is survived by his father, Guy Cosmar of Coshocton, his loving wife of 43 years, Katie Eagan-Cosmar; three daughters, Maggie Cosmar & her fiance Josh Domino of Boca Raton, FL, Amy Cosmar of Orlando, FL, and Molly Cosmar of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two step-grandsons, Giovanni and Lorenzo Domino; siblings, Bob Cosmar of Leesburg, FL, Rick Cosmar of Coshocton, Cindy Cosmar of Coshocton and nephew, David Cosmar of Newark.
Gregg is preceded in death by his mother, Donna Cosmar.
