Holiday gift cards available to veterans and surviving spouses

| October 7, 2020

This year the Veterans Service Commission has decided to make some changes to its annual holiday voucher program. They have opened the program up to all honorably discharged veterans whether they served on active duty, or reserve/national guard. They have also taken the income restrictions off of the program, so this yer the first 200 eligible applicants will receive a free ham or turkey.

Gift cards for the free turkey or ham may be issued to a veteran or widow of a veteran who show proof of being a county resident and have an honorable discharge record with Coshocton County. Gift Cards will be handed out at the Coshocton County Veterans Service Office starting Nov. 9 and ending Dec. 11, or before if all 200 vouchers are handed out.

Gift cards will be issued to the veteran or widow only. A staff member of the veterans service office and or a veterans service commission member will review each application. All veterans receiving a gift card must be a confirmed resident of Coshocton County for no less than three months as outlined in the financial assistance guidelines. A drivers’ license or photo ID is required. No more than one gift card will be issued per household. Veterans/widows must provide the veterans’s DD-214, NG-22 or reserve discharge orders proving honorable discharge.

These gift cards are for use only at Buehler’s Fresh Foods, 830 S. Second St. This card is only good for a turkey or a ham and must be used by Dec. 31, or it becomes void.
