Hopewell basketball teams headed to tournaments

The Hopewell Indians had two basketball teams this year and both are headed to the state tournament. Josie Sellers | Beacon

COSHOCTON – The Hopewell Indians Basketball black team finished its season 7-1 and the red team was 7-2 and both are now preparing to head to their respective tournaments.

The black team will play in the Division III State Tournament at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Briggs High School in Columbus. The red team will play in the Division IV State Tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at Strasburg High School.

There were 14 athletes on the black team, 15 on the red, 10 on the skills team and there also were 12 cheerleaders.

Head coach of the black team is Devin Rivera and the red team is led by Aaron Mullins.

Rivera has been a Hopewell Indians coach since 2008 and is very proud of all the athletes.

“We just keep on building each year and getting better as they improve on their fundamentals,” he said.
