Hopewell students get music lesson from special guest

| October 11, 2018

Jeremy Timmons, far right, played music for children at Hopewell School and let them get in on the fun by having them dance and eventually play some of their own instruments.

COSHOCTON – Jeremy Timmons brought music alive for students at Hopewell School.

“Every month a different classroom is in charge of music and I wanted to bring someone in from the community,” said Amanda Hittle, one of the preschool teachers at the school. “Jeremy is an uncle to one of my students and he volunteered to come in. The students are excited for him to be here.”

Her class was the first to arrive in the school gym on Oct. 10, and the students could hardly wait for Timmons to start playing.

“I’m excited to hear music,” said Teagan Larrick.

Timmons discussed difference in violins and violas and showed them different sizes of his instruments. He then played several songs before inviting the students to come up and dance.

“I like music,” said Allie Potts, who also is in Hittle’s class. “It’s fun to listen to.”

Here classmate Lucas Croft agreed.

“I like listening to music,” he said.

The students also got to play some of their own instruments with Timmons and had the school gym rocking with music.

“I think it’s important they get to see instruments and have this experience,” Hittle said. “They can learn a lot from music and need to know it doesn’t just come from a computer or iPad.”
