It’s time to order your veteran a banner
For the last few years, the community has been able to order banners to honor and remember the veterans in the area. The city of Coshocton and the villages of West Lafayette, Conesville, Warsaw and Plainfield hung the banners on their Main Streets from Memorial Day through Veteran’s Day. More than 230 banners have been ordered so far and applications are now being taken for more.
For a veteran or active duty military member to qualify for a banner, they must be a resident of Coshocton County, either before or after enlistment or active duty. An application must be completed and must have a copy of their DD214 showing honorable discharge, a valid Veteran ID card or specified armed services on their driver’s license. Do not send originals as these papers will be destroyed. A picture of the service member in uniform, unless they are still active, must be included with the application.
Banners are double-sided and are 24” x 37”. The city and village where you want your banner to hang needs to be specified on the application. The city/village is then responsible for hanging and storing the banners. There is no guarantee your banner will hang in the same place every year.
The cost of the banners is $55 and each banner will have your service person’s name and picture. Yard signs, single or double sided, can also be purchased. Your family will be notified if your banner becomes worn or tattered and you can choose whether to replace it or not.
To request an application, email veteranbannerprogram@yahoo.com. Make sure to attach everything to your email and mail your check made out to BSM OH59 and send it to BSM OH59, P.O. Box 1655, Coshocton, OH 43812. Remember that cell phone photos may not provide the best quality for the banner. An 8×10 scanned picture is best, as smaller pictures may appear grainy on the banner.
