James R. Childress
James Roy “Jim” Childress, 84, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 at Altercare of Coshocton.
He was born Jan. 20, 1937 in Cleveland to the late James Roy Childress, Sr. and Beulah Mae (Thomas) Childress. Jim was a 1956 graduate of Warsaw High School. He was a National Guard Veteran, and a Boiler Operator at the former Stone Container.
Jim loved old tractors and restoring them. He was a member of the Coshocton County Antique Tractor Club and at one time he had a nice collection, but he sold it when he got older and his health began to fail. He was very active with the Coshocton County Fair, where he was involved with the antique tractor displays, tractor parades, the antique tractor pull, and the horse show. He also served as a fair board member. Jim was also very active in the Keene Hill Grange, holding several offices. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed going out with his sons, family & friends, and Tommy.
Jim worked as a part time auctioneer. He owned and operated Childress Hog Roasting & Catering. He was very outgoing and loved to talk and loved a good story and really enjoyed people. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, his wife of 64 years Evelyn. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn E. (Selders) Childress of Coshocton, whom he married July 28, 1957; four sons, Mark (Janet) Childress of Coshocton, Dale (Tracy) Childress of Warsaw, Bruce (Lori) Childress of Bakersville, and Barry (Shelly) Childress of Coshocton; a daughter, Amy (Travis) Mohler of Frazeysburg; grandchildren, Johnathon Childress, Jessica (Jason) Beckett, Joni (David) Yoder, Christopher Childress, Mindy (Kalyn) Augustin, Jared (Courtney) Hamilton, Beau (Heather) Childress, Adrianna (Michael) Ondayko, Michael (Sarah) Ross, Tacey (Johnathon) Mohler Firewick; 18 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces, & nephews. Also surviving is his dog, “Rocky” and his cat “Dolly”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Clay & Arlene “Dixie” Hegyi.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021, at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastors Sonny Easterday & Dave Kraft officiating. Burial will follow in Blissfield Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
