James R. Mercer
James Roderick Mercer, 61, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 24, 1960 in Newark to the late Richard and Rosetta Cora (Knox) Mercer. He worked for Big Lots and Gerber Feed, both in Coshocton.
Jim enjoyed coin collecting, baseball cards, and going to antique & flea markets. He also enjoyed talking about his favorite team, the Cincinnati Bengals. He was a devout Christian & family man, attending the Coshocton Church of Christ every week.
He is survived by his sisters, Joanne (Henry) Nys of Warsaw, Janice (Gene) Sowers of Pataskala, and Sandra Mercer of Coshocton; a brother, Bruce (Vicki) Mercer of Heath; half-sisters, Myrna Bailey of Hillsdale, MI, Priscilla “Buzzy” Price of Newark, and Julia McCullough of Newark; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Betsy E. (Fortney) Mercer, who died Feb. 13, 2019; a brother, Charles Mercer; and two half-brothers, Mike Mercer & John Mercer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2022 at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw, with Pastor Lloyd Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to service time. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
