James W. Large
Rev. James W. Large, 90, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2022 after a brief illness. He spent his last days at the home of his step-daughter, Tonya, who along with his devoted wife Sonja cared for him and stayed by his side.
He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Wadsworth to the late Fred and Bertha (Buckingham) Large. Jim and Sonja were married July 11, 2018, at Morning Side Chapel in Blue Eye, MO. During the last three and a half years, they’ve enjoyed traveling to Evangelist Revivals at Morning Side with Rev. Jim Bakker, Billye Brim Ministries Prayer Mountain in the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri (which is where there was a reception held for them, and their marriage was announced on national television by Evangelist Brim). Jim knew many of these folks personally and was a dear friend to them all, including Evangelist Kenneth Copeland in Branson, MO and now-deceased Evangelist Morris Cerullo in Nashville, TN, as well as many other Evangelists, Prophets, and Pastors around the world.
Spring Mountain Chapel is where Jim Pastored for over 45 years. Its sister chapel is Restoration Center Full Gospel Pentecostal Church with Pastor Sandra McNutt Mann, a former youth of Jim’s from Spring Mountain Chapel. The Upper Room Assembly & Worship Center is their family church, Pastored by his grandson-in-law, Stan Braxton, and granddaughter, Nicole Braxton.
Previously, Jim was married to Bernadine (Giauque) Large on Oct. 7, 1950, until July 10, 2017, when she went home to be with the Lord. Both of his wives worked by his side at L&L Motors and L&L Wells. Bernadine was with him when he had L&L Farms, Hilltop Auto Parts and Hilltop Speedway. They both encouraged him and cheered him on as a dirt-track race truck driver. He was a dedicated hard-worker his whole life from age 14 to 90. Even up to the end he was teaching Stan how to operate the wells after purchasing them.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja (Hodges) Large of Warsaw; four children, Beverly Large of Millersburg, Jack (Vickie) Large of Conesville, Jim (Lisa) Large Jr. of Killbuck, and John (Marie) Large of Coshocton; two step-children, Tonya Holskey of Warsaw, and Jim (Amanda) Holskey of Coshocton; 10 grandchildren, Dan (Cherisa) Hodges, Amy (Ernie) Sheldon, Jill Woods, Steve (Jennifer) Large, Nichole (Stan) Braxton, Stephanie, Zack, Olivia, Nick, and Evan Large; seven step-grandchildren, Tramon “Tremor”, Tyler & Izzy “Tizzy” Ferrell, Riley, Kaden, Delilah, & Savannah Holskey; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
