Janusian Club celebrates golden anniversary with Ladies Night Out

| March 11, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE – The Janusian Club in West Lafayette will be celebrating its 50th anniversary of the club’s inception with their traditional style show during Ladies Night Out on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ridgewood Junior High auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

The theme this year is “Love, Janusian Style” and the infamous style show will feature a variety of popular couples who are in love. Approximately 20 members are in the show and the club has about 22 members total.

In celebrating its 50th anniversary, the club will be bringing back some of their charter members who will have a special place of honor at the show. A few highlights of the club’s activities will also be announced during the show. Over the years, the Janusian Club has purchased an electronic sign for the Ridgewood High School, given to United Way, purchased smoke detectors for Ridgewood kindergarten students and replacement smoke detector batteries for the first grade students. They also have a scholarship they award each year. Last year, they purchased flags for the city of West Lafayette.

“We try to stay local with our charities because we’re one of the few civic clubs in West Lafayette,” said Judy Blair, president and the only active charter member.

In addition to the style show, Ladies Night Out will feature two raffles, one of which will be for a television, a silent auction with a variety of items donated from local businesses, and a 50/50 drawing. The evening will end with the traditional Bingo game.

Each member makes two salads and two desserts for the event and a long row of tables featuring every kind of salad and dessert imaginable are set up at one end of the auditorium. Terry Longsworth of Dale Gress Real Estate will begin the evening by taking bids from each table. The winning bid will be the first table to eat.

“Women are usually ready to get out by this time after the long winter,” said Blair. “When you think about it, there’s no place you can go and get that type of food, fun, and fellowship. It’s just an evening to get out and be with friends.”

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling Nancy Jackson at 545-7879 or Wendy Schumaker at 622-8915. There are a limited number of tickets available and they go fast. The club only reserves tickets for groups of eight.

“It’s a night they can come, get a good meal, have fun, and support a worthy cause,” said Blair.

The Janusian Club meets each month in member’s homes. Their motto is, “Mighty in deeds, gentle in manner.” Ladies Night Out is their only money-making project.
