Fortune, 64, of West Lafayette, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his family.  Born on May 6, 1948, he served honorably in both the United States Army and Navy, before marrying his wife of 31 years, Cheryl Fortune (Weidger).  Jay also served his community as the Chief of the West Lafayette Police department, and worked at Kraft Foods in Coshocton.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl of West Lafayette; son Bo & wife Michele of West Lafayette, son Brian & wife Erica of Columbus, daughter BriAnne Keen & husband Andrew of West Lafayette, 3 grandchildren Alexandria Thompson, Bowen Keen, and Jackson Fortune;  brothers, Sam and his wife Bonnie of Conesville, Richard of Branson, Missouri;  father-in-law Russell Weidger of West Lafayette; sister-in-laws Lynne Leach & husband Larry of West Lafayette and Grace Baptista & husband Sam of Bellevue, OH; brother –in-law John Weidger & Chris of Coshocton; nephews Larry & Lance Leach, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his parents, Marion & Maxine Fortune; mother-in-law Donna Weidger; brother Arlie Fortune, sister Marilyn VanMeter.  Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Thursday January 10, 2013 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.  Per Jay’s wishes, a cremation will take place after calling hours and burial of cremated remains at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to James Cancer Clinic, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com
