Jerry Lee Watton

COSHOCTON – Jerry Lee Watton, 81, of Coshocton passed away at The Ohio State University Medical Center on Wednesday January 29, 2020.

Jerry was born in Zanesville on December 13, 1938 to the late Robert Watton and Betty (Salome) Howell.  He graduated from Zanesville High School.  He was a dedicated schoolteacher and coach throughout his life at several public schools; Zanesville, Amanda Clear Creek and Coshocton City Schools to name a few.  He loved coaching football and wrestling, going on walks, watching college football and would always help anyone he could.  In his earlier years, he owned and operated “The Paint Store” on Locust St. and he and his wife Nina also owned and operated “Decorator Studio” on Main St..  Jerry retired as a teacher at the Coshocton County JVS (now Coshocton County Career Center) after 19 years of service as a marketing teacher.

He is survived by his devoted wife Nina (Hall) Watton; son Tyler (Kim) Watton of Pittsburgh; daughter Amy (Scott) Taylor of Coshocton; step daughter Dana Byerly of NY; grandchildren Zackary (Brandy) Taylor, Amanda (Bill) Jones, Erin (Logan) Hostetler, Emily (Taylor Estes) Watton, Maddie Watton and Isaac Watton; great grandchildren Avery Gisela Estes, Melvin Russell Jones and one on the way baby girl Hostetler.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Shawn A. Watton; grandson Jacob Daniel Watton; stepfather who raised him Edgar Howell and a brother Jeff Watton.

Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM where funeral services for Jerry will begin at 1:00 PM with Mark Granger officiating.  Interment will follow in South Lawn Cemetery.
