Jessie C. Marlatt-Russell
Jessie C. Marlatt-Russell, 92, of Gnadenhutten, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at Mercy Hospital.
Jessie was born on Dec. 24, 1931, to the late Gladys and Frank Summers of West Lafayette.
Jessie graduated as valedictorian of West Lafayette High School in 1950. She then went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1974, an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement in 1977, and continued with a Master’s degree in Education. In college, she was part of the Delta Kappa Gamma society. She then began her career as a 2nd-grade teacher at West Elementary School for over 40 years and was loved by so many students and colleagues.
On Jan. 5, 1952, Jessie married Darrel Marlatt, who preceded her in death. They had two children, Marsha and Jeff Marlatt. Some of her greatest accomplishments in life were her children and career. Jessie was an avid lover of animals, books, learning, helping others, and spending time with her family.
Along with her parents, Jessie is preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha; sister, Edna (Glen) Emslie; and daughter-in-law, Carmen Marlatt.
She is survived by her son, Jeff, and long-time companion, Verena; grandchildren, Jameson (Sydney) Marlatt and Lacy (Andrew) Monticelli; sister, Janie (Larry) Stahl and her family; and nephew, Greg Emslie and many others.
There will be a closed casket ceremony at Addy Funeral Home in Newcomerstown at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, and a private graveside service to follow for the family.
