Joan Frances (Tyson) Scheetz

Joan Frances (Tyson) Scheetz, 89, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at the Coshocton Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 5, 1933 in Coshocton Co. to the late Samuel and Constance (Stubbs) Tyson. Along with husband, Joan owned & operated Scheetz Tree Farm for many years. She was a teacher’s aide at the former Pleasant Valley School, and a 4-H advisor for several years. She attended Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church for many years where she was very active, having served as past President of United Methodist Women, a Sunday School teacher, and the longtime choir director. Joan loved gardening, quilting, sewing, cooking and canning. Her beautifully woven rag rugs were often given away as gifts, and the recipients always enjoyed them. She loved and cherished her entire family, who meant the world to her.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth D. Scheetz of Coshocton, whom she married Feb. 2, 1952; a daughter, Jane (Larry) Hartsock of Coshocton; two sons, Donovan (Theresa) Scheetz of New Bedford, and Jonothan (Eva) Scheetz of Bellbrook; seven grandchildren, Dustin (Chad) Hartsock, Jacob (Angie) Hartsock, Jessalyn Ayon, Joanna (Johnnie) Moreland, Rebecca (Blake) Smith, Lucas (Valerie) Scheetz, and Emma Scheetz; eight great-grandchildren, Grant, Roth, & Knox Hartsock, Penelope Ayon, Joelle & Josiah Moreland, Vanessa Smith, and Colton Scheetz; two sisters, Jean Shafer of Baltic, and Carol (Bill) McCoy of West Lafayette; several nieces & nephews; and her special pets, a border collie “Ruby”, & a calico cat “Molly”.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022 at Prairie Chapel U.M.C. (45494 CR 23 Coshocton, OH 43812) with Pastors Matt Wilson & Dail Parrish officiating. Burial followed in Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery at New Bedford. Calling hours for Joan were held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at the church and also one hour prior to service time on Saturday.
