John A. Greten

John A. Greten, 73, of Fresno, passed away at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus on Thursday December 26, 2013 from complications following an accident working in the woods on his farm.

John was born to the late Vincent Roy and Thelma (Murphy) Greten in Zanesville on January 9, 1940.  He is an Air Force Veteran having served from 1957 to 1961.  John was a lifetime farmer, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was an avid reader of history, watching the Cleveland Indians, growing strawberries and spending time outdoors on his farm.

He is survived by his wife Carole (Barstow) Greten who he married December 11, 1975; children Michael (Karrie) Greten of Fresno, Elizabeth (Ben) Doyle of Plainfield, Scott Frazee of Fresno, Steve Frazee of Nashville, TN and Rick (Cindy) Frazee of Lawrenceburg, TN; grandchildren Michaela and Ryan Greten, Alayna and Laura Frazee, Joshua and Jon Frazee and Emma Doyle; three great grandchildren Abilene, Laykin and Laycee; sisters Jane Ann Perry of Zanesville and Carol Jo Gillett of TX; brothers Jay (Margaret) Gillett of NC and Jeffrey (Judy) Gillett of West Lafayette; sisters in law Linda (William) Murphy of Fresno, Barbara (Bryan) Couch of CT, Peggy Caudill of Fresno, Connie Rutkowski of FL; brothers in law Tom Barstow and James Barstow both of Fresno; several nieces and nephews.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his father Vincent was killed in action in World War II; stepfather Horace Gillett; brother James Greten; father and mother in law Lester and Elizabeth Barstow and a sister in law Sandra Barstow.

Friends may call at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton on Monday December 30, 2013 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.  Funeral services for John will be at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Kathy Powers officiating, Coshocton County Veterans Honor Guard will also be performing military honors.  Per John’s wishes, a cremation will take place after funeral services and burial at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Fresno Alumni Scholarship Fund, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.  An online memorial is located at www.themillerfuneralhome.com .
