Keene Elementary celebrates career day

| November 3, 2013

KEENE – Keene Elementary students celebrated dress like a professional day Nov. 1.

“We did this to help them start thinking about their college and career choices and the different paths in life they want to take,” said Principal Matt Colvin.

Many of the children put a lot of time and effort into their costumes and spent the day walking around school dressed as teachers, doctors, soldiers, cops, pet groomers and more. Colvin’s son who is in kindergarten even dressed up as a principal.

“We understand that they can change their mind five or six times over the next couple of years, but we want them to have vision and something to work toward,” Colvin said.

He also plans to introduce the students to different careers by having guests come to the school. The Sheriff’s Department will be at the school on Wednesday, Nov. 6 to talk to the students about safety, show them their various vehicles and give a K-9 demonstration.

“Even kindergarten’s not to early to be thinking about what you want to do,” Colvin said. “When our kids get to the high school we want them to be prepared for career paths.”
