Lady Bears split doubleheader
WARSAW – The River View Lady Bears varsity softball team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 4-1 loss to Jonathan Alder on April 6. Jonathan Alder took the lead on a double in the second inning.
River View fired up the offense in the second inning, when Claire Warschauer singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Peyton Werntz took the loss for River View. She went six innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and striking out two.
River View totaled seven hits. Aleigha Hardesty and Mikensi Ehlinger each racked up multiple hits for River View. Ehlinger and Hardesty each collected two hits. River View didn’t commit a single error in the field. Hardesty had the most chances in the field with seven.
The Lady Bears, however, came back in their next game of the day to beat Bishop Hartley 14-4. Kelsie Williamson came to the ballpark and meant business, driving in four on three hits to lead River View. She drove in runs on a single in the second and a single in the fourth.
River View pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Williamson singled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs, an error scored one run for River View. Claire Warschauer singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, and Mikensi Ehlinger‘s sac fly scored one run for River View.
River View scored five runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Alyssa Thomas, Peyton Werntz, and Melanie Giffin.
Thomas earned the win for River View. She surrendered four runs on six hits over five innings, striking out two and walking zero.
River View scattered 13 hits in the game. Giffin, Williamson, Thomas, and Werntz all had multiple hits for River View. Werntz, Thomas, Williamson, and Giffin each collected three hits to lead River View.
