The Lake Park Big Band will be back on the deck of the Lake Park Pavilion on Saturday, June 12 from 7-9 p.m. for a free open-air concert.

“We plan to play out on the deck in front of the pavilion weather permitting, otherwise we’ll set up inside on the stage. We invite the public to bring a lawn chair and enjoy this free performance and help celebrate a post pandemic return to normalcy,” said Tim Vance, who is the current leader of the Lake Park Big Band.

“The band is now ‘unmasked’ and eager to get back to playing the music our band members, listeners, and dancers enjoy,” Vance said. The band last played at the pavilion for the annual Sweetheart Dance in February 2020 just before the pandemic brought most live performances to a halt.

The Lake Park Big Band has been a performing fixture at the pavilion for over 20 years bringing back the sounds of the iconic Big Band Era with featured vocals, great instrumental arrangements, and popular dance music.

The concert will feature several Glenn Miller favorites including “Moonlight Serenade” first recorded by the Miller Band in 1939 and perhaps the Miller Band’s most popular feature, “In the Mood” also recorded in 1939. Several arrangements and pieces by famed Air Force Band arranger Sammy Nestico are also planned. Nestico passed away in January 2021 at the age of 96.
