Lawrence D. Hettinger

Lawrence David Hettinger, 87, died Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville.

He was born Nov. 11, 1935 in Miamisburg to the late Paul Alfred and Tera Ethel (Sexton) Hettinger. He was a Master Sgt. in the US Army 82nd & 101st Airborne, completing 149 jumps during his time in the service. He traveled the world as an aid to General Conway.

Lawrence had a deep love for farming, and his wife and family. He loved to fly and he enjoyed cooking. He had a passion for outdoor recreation, such as water and winter skiing, camping, golfing, mushroom hunting, and deer hunting just to name a few.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Renate W. (Haas) Hettinger of Coshocton, whom he married March 31, 1958; five children, Lawrence D. (Brooke) Hettinger, Jr. of Virginia, Glenn (Patty) Hettinger of Columbus, Carolyn (Todd) Strayer of Columbus, Dean (Jennifer) Hettinger of Warsaw, and Deborah (Tony) Zerkle of Rushville; fifteen grandchildren, Theresa (John) Dlugopolsky, David (Christina) Hettinger, Christine (Kelly) Garfield, Michael Hettinger, Jessica (Deon) Norton, Danielle (Tony) Jack, Alex (Dani) Hettinger, Alyssa (Brandon) Lepp, Lauren Booth, Nathan (Casey) Strayer, Madelyn Strayer, Lillian Strayer, Evelyn Strayer, Bailey Hettinger, and Owen Hettinger; fourteen great-grandchildren and two expected; brothers, James (Barbara) Hettinger of Texas, Charlie (Becky) Hettinger of Texas; several nieces and nephews; a former son-in-law, Joseph McBride; and a sister-in-law, Lucy Hettinger of Akron.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia (Hettinger) McBride; and siblings, Paul G. Hettinger, Walter (Cilka) Hettinger, Forest Hettinger, Essie Strait.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, with military rites performed by the Coshocton Co. Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 5th, as well as one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Saturday. www.fischerfuneralhome.com
