Lenten Lunches to be held at Presbyterian Church

| February 7, 2024
Church Women United will once again host Lenten Lunches at the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton. The first lunch will be served Wednesday, Feb. 14, and the last will be Wednesday, March 20. The lunches will begin at 11:45 a.m. and last about an hour. A $5 donation is asked.
Local churches provide the food and volunteers for the lunches. All proceeds from the lunches are used for local mission services such as the Clothe a Child project at The Salvation Army. Christa Ciotola, president of Church Women United, said last year was a record year for donations to the lunches, and they are hoping this year is the same.
“We have a speaker each week. This year the theme for the lunches is ‘Christ Foreshadowed.’ Each speaker will talk about what Jesus went through leading up to his death and resurrection,” Ciotola said. “It’s going to be an exciting theme.”
Ciotola, Kay Dunfee and Karen Bowman are all officers in Church Women United and agree the lunches couldn’t be held without the support of the community. This year culinary arts students at the Coshocton County Career Center will make the soup two times. The ladies also hope to have student volunteers to help at the lunches.
Lunch consists of a bowl of soup, pie or cake, and a drink. Plates of vegetables and cheese and crackers also will be available.
“We couldn’t do this without the community. Thank you to Pearl Valley Cheese and Jones Metal and so many friends of members of our group. And thanks to all the churches who make 6 gallons of soup every week, plus all the pies and cakes,” Ciotola said.
The Lenten Lunches have been held for more than 50 years. “It really is a community thing,” Dunfee said.
