Leslie D. Duren
Leslie Parker Duren, Coshocton, OH, 48, unexpectedly passed away, Tuesday, December 24, 2013 in the intensive care unit at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH. She was born June 10, 1965 at OSU Hospital in Columbus, to Dale B. Parker and Ruth (Young) Parker. She graduated from River View High School in 1983 then attended Muskingum College and graduated from Ohio University with a B.A. in education.
Leslie was married to Daniel C. Duren on November 30, 1985. They resided in Sunbury, OH for ten years. While there, Leslie was President of the Historical Society and served as presiding judge for the Board of Elections. She wrote travel and tourism columns for the Delaware Gazette and the Sunbury News. She also taught school in several districts and received the Teacher of the Year Award at Bexley. Leslie and Daniel moved back to Coshocton in 1995 and she was co-owner of Duren Agency. Leslie was President for seven years for the Coshocton County American Red Cross, served on the board as well.
Leslie had an avid passion for all animals. She was President and served on the board for Friends of the Animal Shelter. Leslie loved to travel and restore old homes, one that was put on the National Registry. She was a former member of the Roscoe Methodist Church and was a present member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leslie was an avid member of the Sacred Heart Catholic School where she was pianist for the Junior Choir and was President of the School Board and established the First Crusaders Club to help subsidize the school. She also was a long time member of Coshocton Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. Leslie was a member of the Roscoe Historical Society and was a 26 year 7th degree member of the Walhonding Valley Grange.
Leslie is survived by her husband Daniel; parents Dale and Ruth Parker of Coshocton; children Benjamin Parker Duren and Drew Denise Duren whom she loved dearly; uncles Clyde (Donna) Young and Albert (Martha) Young of both of Warsaw; many other cousins and close friends whom she cherished. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Clyde F. Young and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Parker; two uncles Robert (Dorothy) Young and Dale (Dorris) Young; her aunt Lillian Rodgers.
She was injured two years ago in an auto accident and was very grateful for all the help from special cousins Elizabeth Yaw, Wanda Dworkin, David Rodgers, Ben Young, Van Young, Vic Young and Wayne Young. Along with special friends Denise Appis, Mary Jo Wells and Barbara Daugherty.
Calling hours for Leslie will be held Friday, December 27, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Miller Funeral Home, 639 Main St., Coshocton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 805 Main St., Coshocton with Father Hritsko officiating. Lunch celebrating Leslie’s life will be at Knights of Columbus Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Leslie’s Honor to Sacred Heart Catholic School and/or Friends of the Animal Shelter, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
