Library and WOUB Public Media to show ‘GOSPEL’

| January 23, 2024

The Coshocton County District Library and WOUB Public Media will be screening a 30-minute exclusive look at the upcoming release of GOSPEL, a new four-hour docuseries on PBS. The event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Coshocton County District Library.

“From the blues to hip hop, African Americans have been the driving force of sonic innovation for over a century. Musical styles come and go, but there’s one sound that has been a constant source of strength, courage, and wisdom from the pulpit to the choir lofts on any given Sunday. ‘GOSPEL,’ the latest history series from Henry Louis Gates, Jr., digs deep in the origin story of Black spirituality through sermon and song.” (PBS.org)

Following the screening, Philip Tabler will present on the influence music had on African Americans in pre-Civil Rights America. Tabler is the music department chair at Valor Christian College and a board-certified music therapist.

‘GOSPEL’ premieres Monday, Feb. 12 and Tuesday, Feb. 13, with a special companion concert premiering Friday, Feb. 9 on PBS. For information about ‘GOSPEL,’ visit www.pbs.org.

Registration is required for this program. Visit www.coshoctonlibrary.org or call 740-622-0956.
