Lincoln students hold mock election

| November 6, 2012

COSHOCTON – Four years ago Barack Obama won the election at Lincoln Elementary. On Election Day Lincoln students were once again given the opportunity to see if their votes matched those who are officially eligible to vote.

“I want to teach the students that it’s important to vote,” said Wendy Kimberley who teaches fifth and sixth grade social studies at the school. “It’s important for them to be informed and have their own views.”

Kimberley had her students helping sign in voters, help the younger ones with their ballots, hand out I voted pins and count the ballots for each class.

“I think it’s neat that people our age get to do this,” said Madelyn Meiser.

Meiser and her fifth grade classmate Leah Lonsberry said most of their knowledge about the 2012 election came from family members and television commercials.

“I like doing this because it’s something we won’t get to do for a couple of years,” Lonsberry said.

I also earned several awards while working for daily papers, including being honored by Coshocton County’s veterans for the stories I wrote about them. I am honored and ready to once again shine a positive light on Coshocton County. I also am the proud mother of a little girl named Sophia!
