Fire fighter Trent Lingo received the Life Saving Award from the Coshocton Fire Department and a letter of commendation from the Coshocton Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 30 in a surprise ceremony at the fire department.

Mayor Mark Mills read a letter his office received about a remarkable occurrence at Buehler’s on April 15. “An off-duty fire fighter displayed exemplary courage when he performed CPR on an elderly individual in distress. When an elderly female collapsed in the parking lot, Lingo immediately assessed the situation and began CPR successfully resuscitating her before EMS arrived on the scene. Situations like these require immediate action. Trent’s response was nothing short of heroic, showcasing his amount of professionalism and dedication to saving lives even while off duty. His actions not only reflect rigorous training and commitment instilled in firefighters but also serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment to public safety. Trent’s quick action, without a doubt, saved her life that day.”

After reading the letter Mill said, “I want to add heroes don’t wear football helmets, play basketball, play baseball, heroes are there every day in moments like these to save ordinary people’s lives and I would like to say thank you as well. On behalf of the Coshocton Fire Department, the mayor’s office and service rep we would like to present Trent Lingo with this Life Saving Award and commendation from the sheriff’s office.”

Lingo said, “I don’t think I did anything different than any of the other firemen would do. Any one of the guys would do the same thing. I’m really happy I was there at the time and was able to save her life. It worked out the best for her. God put me in the right place at the right time to save a life.”

His wife Ashley, sons Kaisen and Taven along with his grandparents Nancy and Max Lingo who was a firefighter for 38 years, said they were all very proud.

Ashley said, “Trent is an exponential person and I think he was just doing what a regular person would do to save someone. That’s just who he is. He is a wonderful guy and a hard worker. I am extremely proud, and I love him. We had dinner at the buffet that day and he had to go mow, so I told him to go ahead, and I would get the bill. When I came out and saw them, I thought what is going on. He told me she was not breathing, and he just jumped in and did it. It was one of those things where, you thank God for putting you in a place at the right time.”
