Local Bounty holiday update

| December 6, 2013

local bountyLocal Bounty Supporters: This week has been a difficult one for our Local Bounty family. One of our vendors, Martin Zelones, passed away on Thanksgiving Day. We have been lifting his wife, Terese, their families, friends and everyone else who held Martin close to heart up in prayer. His contributions to the Local Bounty community will be truly missed.

Here are some updates from our vendors:

Hall – RB – Hill
I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday! It has been a muddy week up on the hill. Our new lawn is loving the warm temps but it sure gets muddy, I will be glad for a freeze! My husband Ben is working on a new small barn for our goats and chickens, hopefully they will get to move up on the hill with us soon. As for goods in the market this week I will have Cracked Pepper Focaccia which is now a crowd favorite. I am also trying my hand at Sourdough, look for it Friday! As always I have our Wine Jelly which is a treat and a very unique gift!

Keene Creek Farm

Hurry, hurry, hurry! There are only seven packs of meat left in our freezer. Don’t forget, if you purchase the last pack, tell the volunteer worker at the cash register. If you leave your name/contact info at the market, we will thank you for your support by giving you a “pork-aholic” farm T-shirt. Our next batch of pigs goes to the processor on Monday, so hopefully by Thursday or Friday of next week we will have some of our selection back for you (smoked meats will take another week though). This week we will have more of Marissa’s pizza dough mixes on the shelves (whole wheat and white) and fresh batches of dip mixes. Have you tried the Mexican Fiesta Dip mix? Toss some of it in with a couple of smashed avocados, a spoon full of sour cream, a splash of lime juice and a sprinkle of salt for a mean guacamole (four year old and one year old approved).

Strawberry Hill Farm

We had a happy Thanksgiving holiday with all three of our children and husbands/fiancee at the farm, and our 22-month-old grandson Finley. We hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving as well. This week at Local Bounty we’ll have more kale and will restock our strawberry jam. There’s been a run on eggs at the farm, so we won’t have any at the store until possibly Saturday. For the holiday season, we’re trying something new. Mary is baking shortbread and will have the first batch at the store today. She’ll bring more on Saturday, along with samples, when we’ll be working at LB (weather permitting!). Shortbread is one of our favorite holiday cookies, an excellent hostess or teacher gift and a great addition to a cookie tray.

Windy Hill Berry Farm

We have our fresh eggs, jams, jellies and butters available at Local Bounty this week. Due to Martin’s passing, we don’t have any baked goods there now. We will have a memorial in his honor, but probably not until after the first of the year as family will travel in from multiple states to remember him. If you’d like to make a contribution in Martin’s memory, a fund has been set up at Ohio Heritage Bank.

Thank you,

– Local Bounty Vendors
