Local Bounty Update

| February 20, 2014

Good morning Local Bounty Shoppers – Boy, aren’t we all itching for spring? And with the warm temps and rain showers expected today, we just might get a taste of it.

Here’s what our vendors will have in the store for you this week:

Hillbippie

Good Morning all! This week we will have Rustic Baguettes which are lovely as garlic bread. Slice them horizontally and slather with garlic, butter, and Italian seasoning bake at 350 until warm. They would be a great match with the new vendor’s marinara sauce! We will also have some round loaves and I am working on BAGELS for Friday. Did you know that breads freeze well? Make sure to double bag and remove all air from the bags.  So if you don’t need it now but might need it then, pick it up now and be prepared for then! Thank you.

Keene Creek Farm

Just one more week to wait until we have a complete selection of our pork products again – including bacon, marinated loin chops, smoked loin chops, Canadian bacon and lots more brats. This wee we have restocked our market stall with Aunt M’s Monster Mix, Mexican Fiesta Dip Mix and the Rustic Herb Pizza Dough Mix. Last week we brought 10 new piggies home to the farm. And this week we are hauling more to the butcher to fill full/half hog customer orders. Marissa will be working at LB this morning and will have samples of her pizza dough (baked up of course) and the pizza sauce from the new vendor, Starfire Foods. Thanks so much for your continued support of our farm and all other Local Bounty vendors.

Strawberry Hill Farm

We’ve finally completed our seed orders for this year’s growing season, and soon we’ll be starting seedlings to plant outside in April and May. The warmer weather lately helps us remember that spring really will come! We have replenished our eggs at the store, and there are still a few of our sweet potatoes and plenty of jars of strawberry jam. We will be working at LB Thursday afternoon. Stop in and see us!

Thousand Hill Acres LLC

The weather is looking up and so are things around the farm!  Our pigs have been keeping close to the barn for about the past month due to the cold temperatures.  On Monday we noticed that the had made their way to the new area of the paddock that we added for them in the fall. By the looks of things, they are really enjoying the acorns, walnuts, and other scrumptious treats that have long been hidden under the snow!  Our Freezer has been re-stocked.   So, be sure to get some bacon or sausage while it lasts.

We were blessed by the birth of a new calf yesterday!  He was born around noon and his mother, June, is handling things well. This is June’s second calf.  She had her first last year here on the farm.  She has really taken to mothering!  We took our kids out for a family walk to see the new calf and as usual, the dogs went along.  When we arrived, we crossed over into the pasture with kids and dogs in tow.  June let out a bawl and the whole heard was headed our way to stand in defense of their newest heard mate!  We quickly called the dogs out and proceeded to the calf.  June was happy to see us. (We took her a treat and some good hay)  Check out our facebook page for pictures of the new calf.

Want to be a hit at work? Wish to send in an easy treat for the teacher’s lounge at your kid’s school? Pick up some of our Nuts-n-Bolts Snack Mix. Consisting of M&Ms, Corn Chex, Cheerios, pretzels, and peanuts covered in rich white chocolate, it’s both salty & sweet, sure to please everyone. And at just $3.50 for half a pound, it’s an inexpensive way to share a smile.
