Local Bounty update

| April 3, 2014

Good morning LB Shoppers: We are grateful for a week of warmer weather and spring rain. This week at Local Bounty we will have some new products for you to try (sprouts from Flying Pig Farm) and chunk honey (very limited supply and when it’s gone, it’s gone – from Mullet Apiaries).

Also, on Saturday Bart’s Rock’n Brats – n – Dogs will be set up at the market selling brats and hot dogs (purchased from our vendors). More details below…

Bart’s Rock’n Brats – n – Dogs

You’re all in for a treat this Saturday (and every soccer Saturday through spring). Bart Winegar will have his charcoal grill concession cart set up at Local Bounty serving up some locally grown brats and hot dogs. Rain or shine, he will be there serving up some some tasty brats/dogs in a bun. He will be set up early and will be ready to serve around 10 and will stay into the afternoon.

Hillbippie

Good Morning! We will have Focaccia today, look for Baguettes, Boule and Neat
Wheat for Friday. Reset Button Tea Bags will be stocked as well!

Flying Pig Farm

We hope you’re enjoying this weather as much as we are! Starting this week we’ll have sprouts in the cooler. Check out the varieties…they are nutritious and delicious. We’ve enjoyed them briefly blanched and added to salads and cooked into stir fry! While you’re picking up your sprouts, make sure to grab some granola. Made with honey and whole grain puffed millet, rice and wheat, this granola makes a healthy snack! Check back Friday for our new dried pastas…the little one had plans of her own this week and they weren’t quite ready for Thursday. 🙂

Keene Creek Farm

Spinach and Buttercrunch lettuce made an appearance in the hoop house this week. Finally. There is one small patch of spinach that over wintered, but it isn’t tons – maybe enough to share in a couple of weeks. This Saturday morning/afternoon you will be able to try some of our pork products (regular bratwurst and hot dogs) from Bart’s Rock’n Brats – n – Dogs. We apologize in advance that we are already sold out of the hot dogs he’s serving up, but we have lots of brats in the freezer and will have more hot dogs in the coming months. Our freezer still has a good supply of peppered bacon, brats (regular and mild Italian), marinated loin chops, breakfast sausage (bulk and patties), and ham steaks. You all have almost depleted our stash of ham loaf. The last of it will be restocked after 2 p.m. on Thursday (Marissa is working the closing shift). Glad you enjoy it as much as we do. Many thanks for your continued support.

Mullet Apiaries

We have had requests over the years for both comb and chunk honey that we were unable to fulfill. Due to our bees being a little overzealous in one of our hives, we have a limited supply of chunk honey this week (just eight jars) packed in a nice reusable glass jar. It’s so pretty that you may not want to eat it! But when it is gone, it’s gone, so come on it and get it! The girls have been packing a lot of pollen these past few warm days and are busy ramping up their numbers for the spring flow. Keep your fingers crossed for a spring that is not too wet or cold. Lots of nectar can mean lots of honey!

Wholesome Valley Farm

Our cheeses (goat and cow) have been restocked. Let us know what you think about our newest product – Mozzarella (shredded and chunk).

Windy Hill Berry Farm

This week’s quick bread flavor: Blueberry Banana bread. This was a favorite among farmer’s market customers last summer. Kids and adults both like it. Try it warm with a little butter on it, yum! Look for it at Local Bounty after 11:00 Thursday morning.

Here’s to another market week…!
